253rd Meeting

With the Preliminaries of Speech Olympiad IX drawing near, each and every club member was busy preparing speeches or organizing the details of the event itself. Thus the 253rd Gavel meeting brought together a flock of busy and enthusiastic Gaveliers to the ENTC PG seminar room on 27th of July 2015 for a workshop by one of the best orators that the club has ever produced.

He was none other than our very own Ajanthan Sivathas, who is currently an IT Business partner-Country IT systems at Unilever Sri Lanka. With stunning accolades behind him including the titles of Inter University Best Speaker 2007, All Island Best Speaker 2008, and Emerging Young Leader of Sri Lanka 2011, Ajanthan is also an exemplary team player. He was the leader of the team that won the CIMA GBC local championship in 2010 and a four times Rugby Coloursman during his university career.

Humble as ever, he drew on his own experiences to enlighten the audience on delivering a winning speech. He reminded us of the power of public speaking, about how great speakers in the caliber of Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Mother Theresa moved a nation with that power. Stressing on the importance of having winning attitude in everything we do, he answered the questions posed by the audience.

Empowered and inspired, the Gavel family dispersed with renewed vigour to “voice it out” and excel at the upcoming competitions and beyond.
