On a bright sunny day, the 22nd batch of students stepped into the welcoming arms of our Gavel Club, ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. The orientation meeting was nothing short of a delightful experience, blending camaraderie, inspiration, and the magic of words.
With anticipation and excitement palpable in the air, the orientation commenced with an icebreaker session. The seasoned members of the club effortlessly orchestrated activities to dissolve any lingering nervousness. Laughter echoed through the room as students participated in games, sharing anecdotes, and learning fascinating quirks about their peers.
The icebreaker played a pivotal role in setting the tone for the rest of the meeting. Barriers crumbled, and the students began to see each other not as strangers but as friends and allies on this transformative journey. Each person was given three questions and the answers were read out loud. The members of the group had to guess who the answers belong to. By the end of the session, the room was abuzz with enthusiasm, paving the way for the upcoming Gavel Club adventures.
For the newbies, the concept of a Gavel Club might have been a mystery, but they were in for a treat. The mock Gavel meeting offered an engaging sneak peek into what happens during a typical club gathering.
Students watched in awe as members took the chance to speak up and express themselves. As the gavel was passed from one participant to another, the atmosphere buzzed with encouragement and support, leaving the newcomers eager to participate.
Speeches have the power to change lives, and the orientation meeting was no exception. The stage witnessed some remarkable speeches that left an indelible mark on everyone present.
The President of the Gavel Club, our very own Gavelier Umesha stepped up to the podium and set the room on fire with a powerful opening speech. Encouraging the newcomers, the President shared personal anecdotes of growth through public speaking. The speech was more than just words; it was a beacon of inspiration that illuminated the path for the new members. Each word spoken resonated with hope and determination, urging the students to break free from their self-imposed limitations.
One of our Gavel Mora gems, Gavelier Thulasithan took the stage next. With poise and vulnerability, the senior member recounted the transformational journey that began as a timid speaker. The tale of overcoming fears, stumbling through initial speeches, and gradually blossoming into a proficient speaker touched the hearts of all. He mentioned about how CC speeches are performed and what they are all about in addition to the Gavel Mora mentoring program.

As there were so many cricket fans at the Gavel Orientation and you should’ve seen how they enjoyed Gavelier Amirthavarshani’s Sixer speech. Perfect display of the harmony between vocal technique and engaging content.
Then as she says the not-so-small Gavelier Chemini took the stage and showed the newbies how a speech is really done. Despite her small stature, every person in that whole auditorium was totally immersed in her words. I’m sure that everyone was astonished and inspired to become a speaker like her in the future.
The final speech was a testament to the profound impact of our Gavel Club beyond its walls. An esteemed alumna, who had conquered the club’s challenges and ventured into the world beyond, returned to share her success story. Gavelier Chathumi Thumbovila attributed her achievements to the exposure she gained through Gavel Mora. This speech cemented the fact that the skills gained in the club resonate in every aspect of life, be it academics, professional career, or personal relationships.
As the orientation meeting drew to a close, the newbies were brimming with excitement and anticipation. The icebreaker had forged connections, the mock Gavel meeting had revealed the beauty of our Gavel Club, and the speeches had infused them with inspiration.
